BIO: My name is Tara Segda and I happily pursue action roles. I train in MMA and weapons. I studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, in the only place I call home, New York City. I have produced my own content and created a demo reel that showcases what I do and what I am passionate about. I continuously work on myself and my craft by taking classes with Sheila Gray (whom I swear by), working on TV shows and performing in theater productions in the heart of Times Square. Training for the big screen has become my sport and my lifestyle, and I am constantly striving to take myself to the next level.
Here’s the deal it wasn’t always like this.
Spartacus Blood and Sand premiered in 2010 and my entire purpose shifted.
Let me clarify, I didn’t know what my purpose was. Until that point I just assumed Id hit it big in a grocery store or as an extra and I would be “discovered” without having to put the real work in…without having to show who I really am because frankly I didn’t know.
I spent a good chunk of those post college years not really knowing what I wanted to do. Serving, tending bar, being fearful of everyone and everything and hiding out from what I now know to be true, my creative self. I have always been athletic and admired athletes – especially hockey players, (GO RANGERS). What they could achieve mind and body was an inspiration. So in 2010 when I saw Spartacus, a series that reinforced just that, strength of mind and body, it clicked! This was the first of what would be many “AHA” moments. Immediately I found the drive and motivation I had been searching for. I started training in boxing and from there it just progressed. I have worked with a championship Muay Thai fighter and currently practice Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kun Do at JKDNYC.
I thank the Universe that people came into my life that inspired me to take action. I had been told that when the student is ready the teacher will appear. I have many teachers, from Dallas Travers who to this day helps me lift the blocks I had so firmly in place, to my incredible mentor Tiffany Goik who continues to guide me toward fulfilling my purpose one appropriate action at a time, to the advice my green juice man Jay, up on 8th avenue, always slides in at checkout.
That’s the thing, we are all students and teachers at the same time.
For the first time I am truly excited for this journey, truly grateful I get to do these things. I didn’t know what I was capable of because I never tried. Now I know the answer is ANYTHING.
